Codework 3: Mark Amerika: Emily Davis Gallery – 03 | 19 – 04 | 13

[Codework 3]

Codework 3 centers around two figures, an artificial intelligence known as “The Digital Thoughtographer,” and a disembodied woman whose scripted voiceover telepathically communicates with this alien shadow figure. The work’s painterly video style is synchronized with 5.1 surround sounds which were made in collaboration with sound artist Chad Mossholder using the voice of Berlin-based actress Jutta Wolfert. Amerika developed the abstract motion image sequences after having toured Japan, Australia and Europe as a VJ performing live audio-visual sets at many museums, universities, festivals, art galleries, and techno clubs.

Codework has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collection of the Denver Art Museum.

spectacle

The Collider Exhibition Series examines the impact, implications and inspiration of the phenomenon generally categorized under the umbrella term New Media within the design practice and fine arts.

The theme for Collider :: C4 this year is spectacle.

spectacle refers to an event that is memorable for the appearance it creates.

Spectacle operates in two contexts simultaneously. On the one hand, it refers to high culture (drama, movies) performances where the draw for an audience is the impressive visual accomplishment. On the other hand, it refers to low cultural shows operating in a folk environment. These can range from the freak show to folk drama to tableau and beast-plays.
